Ghostwriting & Collaborating

As a collaborator, I generate and amplify ideas, programs, and stories. Through a strategic, in depth approach, I help authors create meaningful content that is relevant, fresh, and lasting.

Each collaboration entails adapting my process to the author’s situation and needs. Depending on an author’s schedule, availability, preferences, and the nature of their work, we determine the most efficient, authentic way for the author to communicate their ideas and goals to me, ensuring the best possible outcome.

My role often begins with interviewing the author and leading research so that I can develop content that frames the scope of the book. Sometimes authors share original raw material that I can craft into a salable proposal or manuscript. Often, I do both—build off of an author’s original material and advance it, using my own development process.

In the end, my job is to bring the author’s vision to life—whether that is a personal memoir, a prescriptive adaptation of the author’s approach, the creation of a step-by-step program, or the translation of complex science into accessible, relevant information and take-aways.

Book Proposals

Collaborations with authors typically begin when I am engaged by the author and their agent to develop and draft a book proposal. My proposals are known to be deep-level documents that not only outline the book’s structure, point of view, and story or unique value proposition but also capture how and why the author is best positioned to market his/her/their book. As substantive and clarifying marketing tools, my book proposals have been sold to all major publishers and their imprints, including Penguin Random House, Harper Collins, Hachette, Simon & Schuster, and Macmillan.

Editing & Book Doctoring

Some clients come to me with a manuscript already drafted. For them, I function more as an editor, working with them to tighten, develop, pare down, or clean up the organization and/or prose of the project. I help with overall organization as well as line edit. I am often hired directly by the acquiring editor at the author’s publishing house.

For clients who want more than editorial feedback, notes on the page, or line editing, and prefer that I not only edit their manuscript but also make the changes to the page and the manuscript as a whole, I offer book doctoring services. In such cases, I often work in conjunction with authors and their agents or publishers so that together, we agree on the changes to be made to a manuscript to ready it for publishing.

Brand & Platform Development

My work with authors can also include help creating, guiding and building an author’s brand. I work closely with digital marketing and publicity efforts to create consistency across author platforms, including schemas for podcast production, docu-series, Ted Talks, and other amplifications of author content.

Confidentality

Although most authors wish to acknowledge my participation in the creation of their books, some clients prefer that I work anonymously and under a confidentiality agreement.
